Star Wars Unlimited: Homeworlds Release!

Beyond the Battlefields: Navigating the Planets of Star Wars: Unlimited - Homeworlds

The galactic landscape of Star Wars: Unlimited is officially expanding beyond iconic starfighters and frontline Skirmishes. Releasing this October, Set 9: Homeworlds (HMW) shifts the spotlight to the iconic planets of the galaxy, the unique fauna that inhabits them, and the heavily fortified planetary defenses built to hold them.

Featuring 272 new cards, new token units, and a mechanics-shifting keyword, Homeworlds is shaping up to be one of the most tactical expansions in the game's third year.

What’s Inside the Homeworlds Set?

The core focus of Homeworlds is planetary warfare and environmental control. Here is a breakdown of the new mechanics landing at our game tables:

1. Base Upgrades via the Fortify Keyword

For the first time in Star Wars: Unlimited history, upgrades can now be attached directly to your Base! The new Fortify keyword allows you to anchor defensive systems, local installations, and global environmental effects straight onto your side of the board. Base upgrades persist until removed by specific effects, opening up a brand-new design axis for turtling and setup-oriented archetypes.

2. New Token Types: Beast & Weakness

Board states are about to get a lot more dynamic thanks to two new tokens debuting in this set:

  • Beast Tokens: Ground units that enter play as 3 Power / 3 HP tokens. Expect creature-heavy green and yellow strategies to flood the board with planetary wildlife fast.

  • Weakness Tokens: The direct counterpart to Experience tokens. Attached units suffer -1/-1 per token, giving control and debuff-heavy decks a clean way to neuter high-value threats without using immediate hard-removal events.

Meta Predictions: 3 Game-Changers to Watch

With the introduction of Base fortification and new tokens, the meta is poised for a significant shift. Here are three major competitive predictions heading into release season:

1. Grand Moff Tarkin & The Death Star Shift Midrange Timelines

One of the most talked-about reveals is Grand Moff Tarkin. When Tarkin deploys at 9 resources, he flips into a playable Death Star unit.

  • Why it matters: Tarkin lets you ignore aspect penalties on any upgrade card featuring the Fortify keyword. This means you can run out of aspect Base upgrades seamlessly, using cards like The Tarkin Doctrine to shore up your defenses and survive until that crucial 9-resource threshold. Late-game control decks now have an undeniable win condition that forces opponent aggro decks to operate on a strict clock.

2. Debuff & Soft Control Enter the Tier 1 Spotlight

For past sets, standard removal meant pinging damage or bouncing units back to hand. The arrival of Weakness tokens drastically changes trade math.

  • Why it matters: Applying multiple Weakness tokens effectively neutralizes high-power units, reducing their attack output while keeping them on the board as dead weight. Expect leaders like Jar Jar Binks and green/blue defensive shells to leverage these tokens to force inefficient trades and choke out high-cost threats before they can deal real damage.

3. "Base Haze" Aggro vs. Fortified Control

Until now, your Base had a fixed HP total and a passive or activated leader ability. Base upgrades change everything. Aggro decks will be forced to adapt their burn strategies, as playing straight into a Base running multiple Fortify shields or defensive damage-reduction installations could cause fast damage lines to stall out. We anticipate aggressive decks will begin teching specific upgrade-destruction events to keep paths open.
