It was no secret that the Magic: The Gathering set Secrets of Strixhaven was a great set, but many people overlook most cards when browsing the set list. That's why with community help we've assembled a list of 4 cards that you may want to look twice at!
1. Glorious Decay
This card adds a lot of utility to a green deck especially in standard, with the ability to destroy problematic artifacts like Resonating Lute, Riverchurn Monument, or any artifact creatures like the gearhulks or Krangs that are currently in standard. Dealing 4 damage to creatures with flying can shut down aggro flying decks like Momo if played at the right moments, and the ability to exile a card from a graveyard is just adding to the versatility of the card, able to be sided in against graveyard decks in the format as well while also replacing itself in your hand.
2. Flow State
While many of you guys might be aware of this card if you frequently play blue, the consensus I've found was that many people didn't know about this card. That being said it is one of standards best draw spells at the moment, able to effectively brainstorm but to the bottom of your library, being able to draw 2/3 cards if you have an instant or sorcery in your graveyard. In the blue/red decks that are still holding strong in standard that is not a hard feat to pull off, giving you 2 cards for 2 mana and info on where the 3rd is to plan your draws ahead. All in all fantastic cards that I expect to become way more popular in the format as time goes on.
3. Vibrant Outburst
This card is very strong in standard, being able to slot into aggro & control based decks. The damage it deals can be used to burn down your opponent if they're low or destroy their creatures under 3 toughness. The tap ability also serves dual purpose being able to assist you swinging by destroying 1 blocker and tapping another, or to prevent the opponent from attacking you on their turn. The versatility in it's simple ability means that aggro can survive on the back foot or press their advantage even harder, and control decks can destroy and tap threats or go on the attack if needed.
4. Cauldron of Essence
Despite being a rare I believe needs to get more attention, especially in formats like commander! The main appeal of this card is for aristocrat strategies, 3 mana for a artifact that pings is a great rate while also being harder to remove than creatures in said format! The top ability already made it worth a consider in those Golgari aristocrat decks, but it has an activated ability that lets you sacrifice a creature and bring one back! Hitting cards like Grave Titan for more tokens, or cards you've maybe surveilled/discarded that are expensive such as Vein Ripper! All in all a great card and one of my favorites from the set!
